REGISTRATION OPENS FEBRUARY 18

Registration cost covers your campsite, instruction, meals (Sunday dinner, Monday–Friday breakfast and dinner, Saturday breakfast), and campground services (such as sanitary services, firewood, and parking). Some classes have an additional materials fee. Space is limited, so please register early. Registering implies that you understand and accept our waiver, which you will be asked to sign digitally.

Echoes Tuition

We use sliding-scale pricing. We want to offer as many scholarships as possible, and also keep our prices comparable to similar gatherings across the country. Our prices have a fixed number of registrations to make sure we can offer lower prices to those who need it but also make sure that we are able to meet our budgetary needs. We follow the Buckeye Gathering‘s lead in this vain and ask participants to choose what they pay beyond our base price. Any additional amount over the base price goes into our Scholarship Fund (see below for scholarship information) and helps bring ancestral skills to a wider audience and those in need. You can also donate a separate amount of your choosing if you like. We raise prices to match inflation each year so that we can continue to pay for the staffing, site fees, and equipment, food, and all the other expenses incurred to run this program. If you cannot afford these prices, you can apply for a scholarship or the work trade program. Both of these are highly competitive. Please see our refund policy here.

Covid/Illness Policy

At Echoes we come together as a community, and community care is part of that experience even when it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable. Caring for the safety of elders, children, and disabled community members is part of being in community. Covid and other illnesses remain rampant. Please do not attend Echoes if you are sick. If you become sick during your time at Echoes, please use a mask as you pack up and head home to avoid spreading illness. Before coming to Echoes, understand that this is an outdoor event and you may choose to wear a mask and/or remain a physical distance from people. Everyone attending should bring masks in case an urgent need arises to use them.

Scholarships

(Opens February 18th, Closes March 31)

Anyone can apply for a scholarship, but our focus is for communities that are not well represented in ancestral skills and rewilding: priority is for indigenous, black, people of color, and low-income. We offer multiple single adult scholarships and two family scholarships each year.

Work/Trade

(Opens April 1, Closes May 15, Confirmed June 1st)

Echoes offers a work/trade program in which a participant’s registration fee is waived in exchange for helping set up and take down camp and/or performing other tasks throughout the week. The most obvious benefit to the work/trade program is that you get into Echoes for free. A less obvious benefit is that you get to work behind the scenes and interact in more ways with teachers and organizers; it’s a deeper connection to the event. Work/trade participants must be pre-approved by organizers prior to registration. Work trade only covers registration for one adult. Any children or other family will need to register separately.

There are three areas of work trade at Echoes:

Grounds Crew

The Grounds Crew is required to arrive on Friday to begin work at 8am. Most Grounds Crew work happens Friday through Sunday and the following Sunday. There is some work done throughout the week such as servicing the toilets, gathering firewood, and other tasks that are assigned to grounds crew members who are “on call” for that day. The final Saturday is also a full day of work.

Requirements: Being able to be orientated (picking up on orientation of space). Being on time for meetings and completely work in a timely manner. Comfortable wearing high-vis orange vest while working. Competency and comfort in using a Walkie Talkie/Radio. Enjoy Collaboration with Others. Experience with knot tying. Being comfortable and able to perform physical labor (i.e. lifting 50lbs). Comfort and ability with talking to “the public,” and assisting them. Must have a positive public facing attitude for interacting with the participants, teammates, teachers, etc. Prior event experience is helpful as well as power tool use experience (drills/saws).

The grounds crew work hours commitment are as follows: 6 hours Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Saturday before/after the event broken into two shifts of three hours each (morning and afternoon). 3 hours/day on-call Mon-Fri. Brief morning meetings everyday. (10 days total on site)

Main duties:
Tent set up & maintenance
Toilet set up & maintenance
Firewood Prep & hauling & maintenance
Camp Site Preparation
Registration/Parking
On-Call Shifts
Helping Teachers with Setup (i.e. moving stumps for spoon carving & metal work)
Pack Out
Being prepared to jump in for emergencies, even if not on shift (i.e. branch breaking, bees nest alerting, signage requests like poison oak, etc.)
Tool & Equipment Management
Garbage/Recycling Run
Checking in with other crews (kid/social/kitchen) in morning meetings

People who fail to meet the standards and commitments (i.e. multiple lateness, not showing up, incomplete work, etc.) will be sent home. Please show respect for the gathering by being punctual and ready to assist when requested. We are looking for people who like being helpful, not just people who want a discount. Echoes is pretty chill as far as work/trade goes, but while it’s not super demanding during the week, it’s not all easy, either: some of it involves dirty work and physical labor. If you don’t like getting dirty or doing physical work, please do not apply. Generally, work traders who fit the criteria above are invited to come back year after year.

Kitchen Crew

Kitchen Crew members are required to attend an orientation meeting from 11am-1pm on Sunday, June 21. There are no exceptions. Participation in the kitchen crew involves five meal shifts of 4 hours, and 4 hours of either setting up or tearing down the kitchen on the respective Saturdays. The following are examples of the type of tasks you could be doing as part of the kitchen; set up the kitchen on Saturday, daily prepping for meals, cooking with propane burners, setting up and maintaining the community dish station, washing kitchen dishes, clean up after meals, and breakdown of kitchen on the final day.

Kids Camp

Kids Camp work traders work in the kids camp at least 4 shifts (morning or afternoon). These shifts take place during adult classes. Tasks involved are mostly supervising children’s activities, soliciting instructors to teach kids activities, leading children’s activities, and assisting in teaching children’s activities. All kids camp crew must go through a thorough background check process.

Teaching at Echoes

Teachers at Echoes in Time are volunteers. We are honored to host so many talented instructors, representing countless years of study, rediscovery, and rewilding. As a service to this community of generous teachers, we hold a high standard for new instructors. Though we already work with a solid volume of committed teachers, we do welcome a limited number of new instructor staff (especially when their offerings fill obvious holes in the tracks of our curriculum) and strive to keep raising the bar for the quality of instruction that we offer.
